Charleston, SC – Paul Garbarini recently elected the first Professional Associate in Furniture and Wood Artifacts in South Carolina. This status was awarded by The American Institute for Conservation of Historic & Artistic Works. Professional Associates are conservators who, through training, knowledge, and experience, have shown a commitment to the purposes for which the American Institute for Conservation was founded.

Garbarini has worked in this field for nearly eleven years and owned Heirloom Finishes in Charleston for over four years. He has restored and conserved antique furniture for nearly all of the major antique dealers in Charleston. His care extends to fine private collections and all of the antique pieces at the Mills House Hotel.

Keeping up with the latest materials and techniques in furniture conservation, Garbarini has traveled to London to study wood identification. He attended a seminar on tools used in making Eighteenth-century furniture presented at the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
