Finishes staff attends program on Period Finishes and Identification
and Preservation of Varnished Surfaces

Returning
to the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) for the
annual furniture seminar, Paul Garbarini studied "Period
Finishes" with Mack Headley, Master, The Anthony Hay Shop,
Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Garbarini also participated
in a workshop-demonstration, "The History, Identification,
and Preservation of Varnished Surfaces" with Don Williams,
Senior Furniture Conservator, The Smithsonian Institution. |

Elected Professional Associate
by The American Institute for Conservation
Paul
Garbarini recently elected the first Professional Associate in
Furniture and Wood Artifacts in South Carolina. This status was
awarded by The American Institute for Conservation of Historic
& Artistic Works. Professional Associates are conservators
who, through training, knowledge, and experience, have shown a
commitment to the purposes for which the American Institute for
Conservation was founded.

Paul
Garbarini studies wood identification techniques in London
Paul
Garbarini, owner of Heirloom Finishes in Charleston, SC, recently
returned from London where he studied the latest techniques of
wood identification. The course, offered by International
Academic Projects, provides classroom and laboratory
sessions to help professional conservators gain knowledge of advanced
methods and resources for the accurate identification of woods
used in fine and antique furniture.

Tools Used in making Eighteenth-Century Furniture
Charleston,
SC – March 6, 2007
Paul
Garbarini of Heirloom Finishes in Charleston, South Carolina,
traveled to historic Salem, North Carolina, February 23rd and
24th, for a seminar on Eighteenth-Century tools used in furniture
making. The seminar was presented at the Museum of Early Southern
Decorative Arts (MESDA), which preserves, documents, exhibits,
and interprets the decorative arts of the early South. |
